This design begins with a depiction of the struggle of the people against oppression and tyranny. In order to escape an oppressive system you need to fight against it, but after you win what happens? How do you rebuild?
I believe that society, when focussed on the people that fill it, will naturally move along the roads towards a form of communism. It keeps happening, but is consistently stopped by force from those that hold opposing ideologies. It's a natural progression because historically that is where we come from. Small societies built around collective possession which provides enough for everyone whilst caring for our needy and the environment. Colonialism, capitalism and neo-liberalism has taken that from us, packaged the necessities of life in plastic and sold them back to us for profit at the expense of the very ecosystem we rely on to support life. It isn't sustainable, it's not viable and it needs to end if we are to survive.
Unfortunately you can't just flick a switch. There are pillars of power that need to be dismantled before you can reach a grand societal goal such as communism, that's where the three arrows of socialism come in. Before society is ready, those who see an opportunity to gain power will use anything they can to get it, including a corrupt pseudo-communism which masquerades as a solution when in reality, behind the scenes it maintains the status quo and the powers of oligarchy. The powers need to be held in check whether they adopt the form of monarchism (1st arrow), fascism (2nd arrow) or communism (3rd arrow). With the focus remaining on the long term good of the people at all times and not the power of a few, it's possible to assemble the framework needed to take the leap to the next step, but you cannot jump the gun. Corruption must be taken out of the equation.
After the struggle of rebuilding society with the correct focus and support systems, it's possible to reach the end goal. At which point, in this piece, the third arrow is struck out by the hammer and sickle of the people. "We are ready and we choose this system, it is not being thrust upon us."
At the end of the line we have the star which is a symbol of the ideal society run by the people, for the people. The 5 points represent the 5 populated continents implying that once established, it will spread and take over leading to a unified world.
Let's aim for Star Trek future, not Star Wars future, okay?
