This design begins with a depiction of the struggle of the people against oppression and tyranny. In order to escape an oppressive system you need to fight against it, but after you win what happens? How do you rebuild?
Society, when focussed on the people that fill it, will naturally move along the road of socialism with the end destination of communism. It keeps happening, but is consistently stopped by force from those that hold opposing ideologies. It's a natural progression because historically that is where we come from. Small societies built around collective possession which provides enough for everyone whilst caring for our needs and the environment. Colonialism, capitalism and neo-liberalism has taken that from us, packaged the necessities of life in plastic and sold them back to us for profit at the expense of the very ecosystem we rely on to support life. It isn't sustainable, it's not viable and it needs to end if we are to survive.
Unfortunately you can't just flick a switch. There are pillars of power that need to be dismantled and new systems built in their place. Before society is ready, those who see an opportunity to gain or retake power will use anything they can to stop progress. With safeguards against counter revolutionary forces and the focus remaining on the long term good of the people, you can assemble the framework needed to take the leap to the next step, but you cannot jump the gun. Corruption must be taken out of the equation completely and meritocracy needs to stamp out nepotism.
At the end of the line we have the star which is a symbol of the ideal society run by the people, for the people. The 5 points represent the 5 populated continents implying that once established, it will spread and take over leading to a unified world. (Ooooooooh scary domino theory)
Let's aim for Star Trek future, not Star Wars future, okay?
