So you’re interested in joining the sock market with a collaboration with Angy Paws; here’s the run down!
It is important to me that we give back to the artistic community when we can and our collaborations offer not just a great source of cross promotion, but the potential for ongoing passive income.
The technical side of it:
The mission is to bounce ideas between us to come up with a great design that translates well to socks.
I will provide guidance to make sure it works in the medium, but I want your unique talent to shine through and be the focus.
The challenges with socks as a medium are:
- Simplicity works better than detail. Use thick outlines etc.
- Maximum of 5 colours, cannot do gradients.
- the design joins at the back, so consider how you will make the design tile horizontally.
- It's important to take horizontal stretch into account and be aware that the higher up the sock, the more the design will stretch, so any detail like text is better placed lower.
One of the 5 colours used will be used on the sole of the socks also. On our core range we have a black sole, but in order to give you an extra colour, we relax the branding guidelines for collaboration socks.
We instead use the darkest colour from your design for the sole.

Templates are out of date, new ones coming!
Your design will cover both knee high socks, thigh high socks as well as arm warmers. It’s up to you whether the design is the same across the range, or if you have it different, but in the same theme.
For underwear, we work on a tiling design of 250x250mm making hero assets between 20 & 40mm size. As the designs are printed, we aren't limited by colours as much as the socks, but keeping the colours close to the sock design is preferred.
The icky money side of it:
As part of our collaboration deal, we take on the financial and stock risk with the product and pay you an up front cut when placing the order.
That way there's no outlay or risk for you apart from the time taken to work on the design.
We know it can be hard to be an artist and we want to lift you up, not shake you down for your lunch money.
For socks and arm warmers, we pay you AUD$2.50 / unit
At this stage, a standard order is (100x) pairs of socks and (100x) pairs of arm warmers - giving a total unit count of (200x).
That means you get an up front payment of AUD$500.00 when I order the stock, it's not tied to sales.
Some instances like convention theme socks may require a larger initial order. That just means you get paid more <3
For underwear, we pay you AUD$1.00 / unit
Underwear is ordered in much larger batches with a higher MOQ per style
3 styles x 300 = $900.00. As always, you'll get paid again every time we restock.
We do ask for a tax invoice so we can keep our accountant happy ;)
"If I get paid either way, then why would I care if the product is well received?”
As an encouragement to promote the product, if they are popular and need to be restocked, you get paid again for each subsequent stock order.
So the more you push them, the more will sell, and the faster we’ll need a restock. That’s great for both of us!
Sometimes we may also add supplementary products to enhance the drop.
For stubby coolers, we pay you AUD$1.00 / unit (minimum 50x ordered)
For patches, we pay you AUD$1.00 / unit (minimum 100x ordered)
For stickers there is no cut as the margins are too low.
We will always ask permission before producing supplementary products.
Fun Branding Stuff:
The design will have combined branding on the sole of the socks. At this stage we do one sock with Angy Paws, and one sock with your logo!
Your logo will have to be the same colours in the sock design and the same detail and colour restrictions apply.
You can also put text on the top cuff of the arm warmers :D
If you'd like a card / sticker / flyer included with each sale to further promote your brand, you're welcome to send some over and I will pack them with orders :)
We will also credit you on social media, and the product listings will include a blurb about yourself with a link of your choosing.
Need some examples?
Outer examples are the working files which are then inserted into the mock ups (centre).

"Can I sell some at my event?"
YES! Collaborators have a unique opportunity to stock their own design.
We offer two options, wholesale and consignment.
For wholesale you purchase the stock up front, then it's yours.
It's usually only offered for orders of 100qty per design/style, but for collaborators, if we have stock on hand or are placing an order already, you will be able to purchase in a smaller quantity.
Prices:
Arm Warmers = USD$9/pr
Knee Socks = USD$10/pr
Slim Thigh Socks = USD$12/pr
Thicc Thigh Socks = USD$14/pr
(USD because that's what our supplier uses)

For consignment, Angy Paws retains ownership of the product. You sell the product on our behalf and keep 10% of the sales.
We'll need you to record what was sold and for how much. If you have square, that will be easy and if you need help setting up the automatic set discount we can help.
If you have a scanner, all of our products have barcodes.
As a collaborator, you are in a unique position, you have already made $2.50 / unit and by selling them at an event you can end up with the same amount again when sold at full price (arm warmers are $1.5/unit when sold in a set) without having to put any capital into your own stock. The thicc socks are even better. You will make $4.50 / unit selling on consignment.

What happens if there is a faulty product?
Let us know and send a photo! (We need a photo to claim a credit from the manufacturer.)
If you purchased wholesale we will reimburse you. If on consignment, we will remove it from your stock tally.
The scary legal stuff:
We have a contract in place to protect you and us, it basically says we will pay you for what we make, we won't use your art elsewhere without your permission etc and should you decide to withdraw from the arrangement, we are able to sell off the remaining stock we have. Basically just making sure everything is fair for everyone.

The contract is considered accepted when you provide us with an invoice for payment.
